2023 Secretariat Team

  • Rachel Wei

    SECRETARY-GENERAL

A junior attending Crofton House School, Rachel is ecstatic to be serving as the Secretary-General of CAHSMUN Horizons 2023. Although the thought of interacting with people and speaking in front of them initially scared her, she soon developed a unique passion for this world of debate, diplomacy, and global affairs. Despite position paper struggles and shaky and awkward speeches, Rachel is eternally grateful for everything Model UN has brought to her life. During these past three years in Model UN, she has forged life-long friendships and created invaluable memories that she will cherish for the rest of her life. Outside of Model UN, Rachel can be found hitting herself in the shins with her field hockey stick, collecting crystals, arranging Laufey music, and dedicating an almost excessive amount of her life to piano and classical music. Rachel hopes Horizons will be an enjoyable, educational, and enriching experience for all, leaving lifelong reminiscences.

  • Zakir Rajan

    DIRECTOR-GENERAL

A senior at Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, Zakir is excited to serve as the Director-General for Horizons 2023. After his first conference some six years ago as a timid, intimidated grade seven student, he seemingly could not get enough of the overexaggerated arguments, diplomatic compromise, and ever-evolving crises MUN had to offer. From expanding his knowledge about global politics and international affairs, to being rudely awoken at 3 AM in Boston for a “midnight crisis”, and everything in between, Zakir is extremely thankful for the countless memories and friends MUN has provided for him. When he is not in the committee room, you can find Zakir at the pool, procrastinating over his homework, and enjoying a variety of food at restaurants around Vancouver. He hopes all participants, whether this is their first or last conference, create unforgettable memories at Horizons 2023, and looks forward to seeing everyone at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport in December.

  • Austin Ng

    CHIEF OF STAFF

A junior at Richmond Christian Secondary School, Austin is deeply honoured to be serving as the Chief of Staff for Horizons 2023. Ever since his first conference in Grade 9, the sleepless nights and detailed resolution papers have allowed him to deeply appreciate politics and the complexity of each topic. From having his country blown up at his first morning crisis to yelling across the room at the lack of action being taken, Austin will forever treasure the friendships and memories forged at each conference. Outside of Model UN, he can be found tinkering away at the piano through late hours, shooting hoops outside, or re-watching Modern Family for the millionth time. Austin is excited to meet everyone at Horizons 2023 and hopes that the memories and friendships made will be cherished for a lifetime.

  • Justine Tioco

    DIRECTOR OF LOGISTICS

A junior at York House School, Justine is honoured to serve as the Director of Logistics for Horizons' fifth iteration. She began a deeper involvement in Model UN in grade 10 and was immediately introduced to the wonders of this activity. Her first conference, Horizons 2022, has been the foundation of a safe and welcoming community of life-long friendships and invaluable memories, and she hopes to cultivate the same environment for incoming delegates. Besides the close-knit community, Model UN has been the starting place for enhancing her understanding of global issues, catalyzing her engagement with social justice movements, and developing an interest in international relations and sociology. Apart from her involvement in Model UN, Justine can be found immersing herself in cat cafes, attempting to finish her never-ending reading list, or fueling her addiction to matcha lattes. Justine hopes all delegates will have an enjoyable experience at Horizons 2023 and looks forward to meeting everyone this December!

  • Justin Bao

    USG COMMITTEES

Currently a junior at St. George’s School, Justin is ecstatic to serve as the Under-Secretary General of Committees for Horizons 2023. Since attending his first Model UN conference in 2020 as a hesitant and stumbling delegate, Justin has been captivated by the organic flow of debate and diplomacy from the committee room. From orchestrating bankruptcy in JCC to arguing against Caesar in the Roman Senate, Model UN has undoubtedly become an integral pillar of his high school experience. For him, it has been synonymous with the growth of his passion for global events, diplomacy, and sociology, and a place to build meaningful connections with others. Outside the committee room, one can find Justin racking his brain on math problems, endlessly waiting in line for the ski lift, and attempting to write literature of questionable quality. Justin has complete confidence that Horizons 2023 will be a gratifying and memorable experience for all delegates, and eagerly awaits a weekend of amazing debate and diplomacy in December!

  • Fiona Xing

    USG MARKETING

A junior at Crofton House School, Fiona is deeply honoured to serve as Under-Secretary-General Marketing at Horizons 2023. Since embarking on her Model United Nations journey one year ago at Horizons 2022 as a Media Team member, her affinity for these passionate and dedicated weekends has grown exponentially. With each conference she attends, she is either seen accompanied by her camera, documenting special moments to reminisce upon in future times, or forging new bonds with whomever she comes across. Outside of MUN, she is often found listening to her superior taste in music, playing video games, or purchasing books and intending to read them "later," which, of course, tends to mean never. Fiona sincerely hopes that Horizons 2023 will offer an unparalleled experience from which everyone–new or returning delegates, staff, and sponsors–can derive everlasting value.

  • Adele Agenes

    USG CONFERENCE

Adele is currently a junior at Rockridge Secondary School, and is thoroughly honoured to serve as the Under-Secretary-General Conference at Horizons 2023. Since grade 9, Adele has enjoyed being involved in the astonishing world of Model UN, and she has been fascinated by the degree of creativity and passion everyone brings to conferences. As a delegate at Horizons 2022, she appreciated the inviting and uplifting atmosphere at the conference, where she created countless friendships and memories, and furthered her understanding of international relations and diplomacy. She hopes that this iteration of Horizons impacts and benefits you in the same manner. Besides taking part in Model UN, Adele can be found trying to read scientific articles and segment brains on public transit, drinking bubble tea with friends, or attempting to hike. Adele wishes all delegates the best experience at Horizons 2023 and is very excited to meet everyone in December.

  • Leanna Liu

    USG DELEGATE AFFAIRS

A sophomore at Crofton House School, Leanna is beyond excited to serve as the Under-Secretary-General Delegate Affairs for Horizons 2023. Although her initial MUN conference involved donning pyjamas beneath a blazer and utilizing the Zoom app, Leanna swiftly developed a strong interest in the world of MUN. Her favourite part has always been the hilarious yet innovative bloc names, last-minute resolution paper edits and the phrase “point of personal privilege, can we turn the heat up?” Leanna expresses immense gratitude for the bonds she built, the knowledge she’s attained and the memories she’s made in the last three years. Outside of MUN, she can be found on a run along the beach, watching history documentaries repeatedly and debating. Leanna encourages each delegate to raise their placard, challenge their boundaries and make Horizons 2023 an unforgettable experience for everyone.
