The International Energy Agency (IEA)

The International Energy Agency (IEA), established in 1974, has been the primary international energy agency, conducting deep analysis and research on the entirety of the world’s energy sector. Originally, the sole purpose of the agency was to ensure global energy security, however it soon shifted towards a wider scope, with a focus on sustainable energy. Through policies, research, and established dialogue, the IEA provides a platform for the world to better manage the energy sector, and plays a major role in facilitating dialogue regarding the shift to renewable sources.

IEA offers the traditional Model United Nations experience for delegates of all experience levels. Position papers are not mandatory, but highly recommended. However, to be considered for an award, delegates must submit one by 11:59PM PST on November 25, 2023, or November 17, 2023 for feedback from the dais team. Please read about Horizons’ Position Paper policy, which can be found below. Questions, inquiries, and position papers for this committee can be emailed to horizons-iea@cahsmun.org.

Daniel Zhang | Director
Venturing into his grade 12 year at Mount Douglas Secondary, it is Daniel’s distinct honour to serve as the Director of the IEA for Horizons 2023. While Daniel’s initial entrance into the world of Model UN was a result of peer pressure and the promise of “Vancouver Boba,” he soon found a place for himself within the intricate debates and caffeine fueled crises. Ever since that first conference, Daniel’s passion for Model UN has only grown. Outside the committee doors, Daniel can be found overanalyzing his chemistry notes, cooking up new concoctions that barely pass as food, perfecting his “KR&B” playlists, and coding random projects that drift into his mind. Within his final year in the world of Model UN, Daniel looks forward to creating an unforgettable experience for all delegates, and wishes each of them the best of luck!

Tyler Sun | Chair

A junior at R.E Mountain Secondary School, Tyler Sun is jubilant to serve as Chair of IEA. Initially persuaded by his friend two years ago to attend a MUN conference, he has since proficiently grasped the essential ideas of riveting debate, clashing perspectives, and intense diplomacy that define the realm of MUN. Outside of Model UN, Tyler indulges himself in occasional walks around his community, listening to music, and crafting a rib-tickling, preposterous "rap career." Tyler extends his wishes to all delegates attending this iteration of Horizons and greatly anticipates the delegates’ collective arrival.

Bella Wang | Chair

A junior at York House School, Bella is thrilled to serve as the Chair of the International Energy Organization at CAHSMUN Horizons 2023. Ever since joining Model United Nations in Grade 9, Bella has learnt so much from this engaging sport. The memories, friendships, and lessons gained from each conference will never be forgotten. Running through downtown with friends in full Western Business Attire and banging loudly on tables are only two of her unmatched MUN experiences. Away from MUN, Bella can be found studying last-minute for her next test, buying coffee at Starbucks, or procrastinating at home. Bella hopes that all delegates have fun at CAHSMUN Horizons 2023 and enjoy this weekend to its fullest.
