INTERNATIONAL PRESS CORPS (IPC)

The International Press Corps is one of the few Model UN committees that is not part of the actual United Nations, thus making it particularly unique. As a journalist representing a specific news agency, you will not stay in the same committee for the entire conference; rather, you will rotate to a different committee every session and write a news article about what you find from the perspective of your news agency. The content of these articles may vary from a straightforward rundown of current bloc positions to a transcribed interview with a delegate. You may also choose to satirize certain stances or solutions of the committee which you are assigned to if said solution or stances do not align with your news agency’s stance. Although you will be granted plenty of freedom in deciding the style and content of your articles, you must consider the biases and opinions that your news agency has towards each topic. Also keep in mind when writing your articles that they should not be overly long or complex. Concision and quality will all prove important during the conference! Thus, a two-part position paper is required by 11:59PM PST on November 25, 2022, or November 17, 2022 for feedback from the dais team. Please read about Horizons’ Position Paper policy, which can be found below. Questions, inquiries, and position papers for this committee can be emailed to horizons-ipc@cahsmun.org.

Sissi Zhao | Director

A sophomore at Crofton House School, Sissi is delighted to serve as the Director of the International Press Corps for CAHSMUN Horizons 2023. Having long been fascinated by the effects of seemingly distant world affairs on her life as a mere teenager, Sissi initially embarked on the tumultuous journey of a MUN career to investigate further into the labyrinth of international debate. However, what she thought would be formal, decorous conference meetings have never been short of outlandish jokes and lively conversations over ramen at midnight. From sitting through her first committee without raising her placard once to screaming openly at other delegates in the middle of the room, Sissi is eternally grateful for all the growth MUN has brought to her. For this iteration of the International Press Corps, she keenly awaits meeting the delegates and becoming one–of the hopefully many–people they befriend on their own journeys in MUN.

Devin Yue | Chair

Currently a junior at St. George’s School, Devin is honoured to serve as the Chair of the International Press Corps in Cahsmun Horizons 2023. Ever since embarking on his Model UN journey four years ago, Devin has found a new burning passion. He had always been enthralled by the unique atmospheres and discourse that each conference held. From engaging in passionate debates to bonding with other delegates, Devin had acquired many memorable moments in the past few years. When not procrastinating his work, Devin can be found playing ice hockey, walking around in his neighbourhood, or grimacing during his drop sets in the gym. Devin hopes to create a lovely weekend filled with fruitful debates and cherished memories for all delegates attending Horizons 2023.
